My
background in
communication spans over 25
years, and a broad range
of settings.
I have run a number of organisations, departments and businesses,
including one I am particularly proud of, Tacpac, developing communication
resources for people with sensory and neurological impairment, winner
of Times Educational Supplement Special Needs Award 2007.
Clients of my training and coaching include:
- universities (e.g. leaders from Said Business School; academics
completing successful interviews and presentations for professorships;
doctoral students at Oxford
University; successful applicants for research grants of several
million pounds)
- corporate organisations (HBOS, Unilever, London
Underground, GlaxoSmithKline,
FujiFilm Sericol, Anglian
Water, St James'
Place). (see
fuller client list))
- therapist training institutions (Guild of Pastoral
Psychology, Guildford
College, International
Association of Voice Movement Therapists)
- business leaders, coaches, trainers,
psychotherapists, and media presenters (eg BBC radio)
I have published books, chapters and papers on learning methods and
research methodology, and journal articles on voice, communication and
body-mind psychology. As a keynote presenter and facilitator, I have
worked with organisations such as the British Voice
Association, Oxfam,
Age Concern, as well as numerous large
corporations.
My general interest in communication originated in my training and
career as a professional singer. From time to time, I still perform
internationally in the classical, opera, folk and jazz worlds - from
the Salzburg Festival, to Sydney, and the UK ("Eloquent ... Alexander
Massey projected a honeyed tenor line" Gloucestershire Echo; "Alexander
Massey was excellent" The Independent; "consistently thoughtful and
light of touch" Oxford Times), and singing in a duo with David Roth,
long-time member of the renowned Allegri Quartet.
More about this side of my career can be found at www.OxfordSingingLessons.co.uk.
What this means is that from my early days when I was once a terrified
performer, I have had to master a complex set of skills as a vocalist,
performer, actor, communicator, speaker, and presenter, working in
sometimes highly unfavourable environments, in the full gaze of the
public eye. Happily I have found my voice now, and steadied my nerves,
so that stepping out to perform and communicate in those same
situations is now a pleasure. The insights I bring to this work are
born of personal experience!
